Are you willing to give meal prepping a go but have no idea how to meal prep? No worries, in this Meal Prep beginner’s guide I will walk you through all the basics and give you my best tips to make your meal prepping journey a breeze!
Why should you consider Meal Prepping?
Preparing you food ahead of time is a great way to change your diet and focus on more healthy eating options.
Without planning your meals ahead, it is easy to resort to convenience which generally costs more and isn’t the healthiest option.
Meal prepping also makes you more organized, lowers your stress and frustration at the end of a busy day, helps you make better food choices, ensures no food is wasted and saves you money while you eat real food!
All in all, batching cooking leads to a healthier and happier lifestyle.
Here are some of the benefits of meal prepping my family and I have seen following a meal prep plan:
- Saves money
- Saves time
- Avoid food waste
- Better food choices
- Quality time
What do you need to start meal prepping?
When it comes to efficient meal prep, it’s important that you have some essentials at home.
To make sure that you can batch cook fast and store all that healthy food safely, I suggest you grab some essentials tools from your favorite store.
Amazon has a great range of quality and prices, and you can see all my favorites here. However, in this post I will share only the most essential items that you absolutely must have for an effective meal prepping system.
If you need further ideas, I have this guide with the best meal prep supplies.
Vegetable chopper
Essential for pre-prep. Get all your veggies cleaned and cut in a fraction of time that would take to do it by hand!
This is the best way to ensure you add healthy options to your meals.
Instant Pot
The Instant Pot is the perfect meal prepping accessory. It’s automated so you can set it to start whenever you want.
Absolute must if you meal prep using freezer meals.
Glass containers
I prefer glass containers to the disposal containers because, well, obviously they are much better to the environment.
But I also love that they are durable and of excellent quality. And you can get them in so many sizes, with or without inner portions, making it so easy to get the right portions for your needs.
These glass containers are normally airtight with leak-proof lids. They are freezer, oven, microwave and dish washer safe.
If you want to make your meal-times even more convenient, then you need to pick up a few glass containers.
